Kristi Noem said Donald Trump was “exactly right” to want states in charge of abortion access in America. For Noem, Scott and others in consideration to become Trump’s running mate, the former president’s latest contortions around abortion present a new challenge as they compete for his attention. Trump angered several anti-abortion leaders this week by refusing to back a federal abortion ban while embracing exceptions that Republicans throughout the country have for years opposed as morally questionable. But for a party that has long defined life as beginning at conception, Trump’s latest evolution on abortion will test those aspiring to run with him. “That’s just a fact.”Rubio was an early co-sponsor of South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham’s bill to ban abortion nationwide 15 weeks into a pregnancy.

The result of the court's 2022 decision has been a patchwork of anti-abortion laws in GOP-leaning states, while blue states have largely become havens for abortion rights. Biden's support for abortion rights is already well-established, but Trump in recent months has sought to soften his position on the issue. Despite the pro-Trump push on abortion, Kennedy Jr.'s position on reproductive rights hasn't been as clear as Biden's stance. In a February interview with The Washington Post following a controversial Alabama IVF court ruling, Kennedy Jr. said he felt that women "have the right to choose" regarding abortion. When Kennedy Jr. was asked what he'd do to shore up reproductive rights as president, he told The Post: "I don't know, you tell me.

The jockeying to become Trump’s vice presidential pick, playing out behind the scenes for weeks if not longer, spilled into the open at this week’s CPAC, the country’s annual gathering of conservatives. The various approaches to campaigning for the job were on full display inside CPAC, and it’s uncertain which will win over Trump. “Last year, when everyone was asking me if I was going to consider running for president, I said no. “Because anything could happen to Trump.”But he conceded it was a fool’s errand trying to guess whom Trump might pick.

His dominance in the polls and at the polls this year make clear the will of the people: They want Mr. Trump to be No. Hence the curiosity: Who does Mr. Trump want to be his No. As a congressman representing Indiana, Mr. Pence had worked in Washington for 12 years, but never became Washington. Talk has turned to whether Mr. Trump should choose an insider or an outsider, a man or a woman, a legislator or an executive. Yet I think the most important vice-presidential selection question for Mr. Trump is less “who?” than “why?” In other words, the individual should complement, not complicate, his America First record and vision, and recognize the difference between loyalty-as-tenacity (yes) and loyalty-as-obsequiousness (no).

Last February, Spartz said she wanted to spend more time with her family and would not be running in 2024. But the two-term congresswoman now says she doesn't want her work in the Capitol to end in January. In January, Republicans U.S. Rep. Larry Bucshon of Indiana and U.S. Rep. CNN —The Donald Trump vice presidential reality selection show is heating up, with pundits laying out lists of possible people Trump might choose. They range from South Carolina GOP Sen. Tim Scott, to Ohio Sen. JD Vance, to even former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. Trump won’t select a running mate who will help expand his voting base, as he did in 2016 when he named then-Indiana Gov. Pence, who was Indiana governor and a US congressman before becoming vice president, announced his campaign in early June. Pence’s role as vice president was ceremonial in overseeing the process, but Trump and his supporters still felt Pence could intervene. While stumping for president, Pence was sometimes thanked for his service in the administration, his devotion to his Christian faith or for his actions on January 6. But the admiration for the former vice president did not translate to support in the polls. He previously shot down the idea of being a vice presidential nominee again, saying that running twice for the position was enough.

CNN —Former Vice President Mike Pence announced he’s running for president on Wednesday, setting up a battle for the Republican nomination with his former boss, Donald Trump. In a launch video released ahead of his campaign kickoff later in the day in Iowa, Pence casts himself as a Reagan Republican seeking to return America to conservative principles. Though a loyal second-in-command to Trump, Pence broke with him by refusing to overturn the 2020 election results and presiding over Congress’ certification of Joe Biden’s victory on January 6, 2021. An evangelical Christian, Pence was picked to be Trump’s running mate in the 2016 election in hopes of bolstering his standing among Christian conservatives. And although some Trump supporters have spurned Pence, other Republicans have applauded Pence for his actions on January 6.
